HOW TO USE A JOB/CASTING CALL SITE EFFECTIVELY

As the Customer Service Coordinator for a large agency, they are statements I hear all the time: "You haven't let me know about any jobs!" or "Are there any good modeling/acting/casting calls coming up in my area?" or "I've been waiting and waiting and I'm not having any luck!!"

With the multitude of search techniques and the numerous job databases online today the availability has never been better. So why are these questions being asked over and over? Because many new talents and veterans as well, are unaware of how the job assignment sites function.

If you're fortunate enough to be with an agency that provides you access to an online assignments site, logging in and checking for jobs in your immediate area once every week or two is not likely to produce a flood of work. The internet is a fast-paced medium. Most sites are updated at least daily, but let's say a client has an upcoming shoot in 6 weeks and needs 12 models. The job is posted on many different sites and thanks to the speed of the internet and the thousands of models out there who DO know how to use an assignments site, in just a few days or, in some cases, even a few hours, the client may be flooded with submissions containing links to hundreds of online portfolios, and the listing is pulled. If you're only giving the site a cursory once-over every week or so...you are probably missing out on a lot of the jobs you could have potentially submitted for.

Some clients still rely on agencies' booking agents to supply them with suitable talent and always will, but every day, more and more clients are realizing that posting jobs online better serves their needs. Especially for last-minute or short-notice postings, emergency fill-ins, etc.

If you have access to one of these phenomenally successful job sites, by all means, use it to its full potential! Time spent reading and searching the site should be regular part of your daily routine...just like skin care, proper rest and exercise. Allot a certain period, at least once a day, or more if you like, to scour the sites with pad and pen in hand. Jot down jobs that seem interesting for future reference along with the date and location of the posting. Submit for anything and everything you could conceivably qualify for....remember, the key word in this industry is EXPOSURE, EXPOSURE, EXPOSURE!!

If you're checking regularly every day, you'll begin to notice trends, and series of assignments and become familiar with the ebb and flow of postings...the assignment database should become as familiar to you as your own homepage or inbox. Think of it this way: If you were looking for a traditional 9 to 5 position, would you sit at home waiting for an employer to knock on your door and offer you your dream job? Of course not!! You'd be devouring the help wanted section daily, posting resumes on Monster.com, filling out applications and going to interviews all over town! In other words, you'd be blitzing the market!

Modeling is no different. The talents who work the most are the ones who actively pursue their dreams, are in regular touch with agencies and bookers, frequent the assignment sites, apply for everything that catches their eye and almost never refuse ANY kind of modeling job. Once you have all your promotional tools in place, the decision is up to you. Do you rest on your laurels, fuming impatiently, while waiting for your 'big break' to arrive or do you take a deep breath, become PROactive and pursue your dream?

Don't hesitate to call the customer service department at your agency andask for help. Most have links they can email you to tutorials written exclusively to help models learn how to use the job sites with step-by-step instructions....utilize the resources at your disposal, keep your attitude positive and remember:

                                          If you CONCEIVE it,
                                             And BELIEVE it,
				         	  You'll ACHIEVE it!!
